M.S. Walker is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to add to our team! This position provides specific support to the employees and managers of the M.S. Walker Operations team (i.e., warehouse, production, manufacturing, merchandising, facilities) including both Union and Non-Union members. Our operations group is what makes our business move - and we need a dynamic, flexible, patient, and attentive Generalist to provide them with outstanding service and support. In this role, the HR Generalist will create process improvements while also providing advice and guidance on company policy and union contracts, as well as, state and federal regulations. Additionally, this position will lead or be involved with activities around benefits, engagement, employee survey, employee relations, training and development, recruitment, performance management, and general HR support.

This generalist will be based out of Norwood, MA, with occasional planned site visits to our manufacturing facility in Hyde Park, MA, as well as, our office and warehouse in Warren, RI.

Schedule: Hybrid 1-2 days at home; 1 onsite evening per week required to be available for evening operations employees

Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Human Resources team as the first point of contact for Operations employees for any HR related matters
  • Drive HR compliance and ensure standardization and consistency of application of company practices and policies
  • Formulate partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
  • Understand and enforce all terms outlined within the collective bargaining agreement(s)
  • Administer and educate employees on benefit programs, workers' compensation, and leaves of absence; Leave administration - ensure that timely notification to the applicable parties (internal and/or external) is provided, the appropriate documentation is completed, and appropriate approvals are received. Prepare for Payroll amounts to be paid to employee during leave.
  • Partner with Learning and Development team to assist with HR related training and safety programs as well as new hire orientation
  • Assist in planning and organizing employee engagement events including: holiday events, safety programs, wellness and employee appreciation events, etc.
  • Conduct various employee surveys, analyze data collected, and communicate findings to key stakeholders
  • Support diversity, recruiting and retention strategy, efforts and programs
  • Implement strategic short and long-term HR initiatives, in partnership with senior HR and local leadership, to boost morale and drive business results
  • Administer and maintain confidential employee records, status spreadsheets and status changes tracking new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, ADA accommodations, etc. for generation of various reports
  • Coordinate and/or conduct employee-relations activities and programs including but not limited to employee counseling, interpretation of policies, and employee recognition programs
  • Assembles data and provides research support for Affirmative Action Plans, OFCCP Audits, etc. Ensures that ethics & compliance procedures are in place and followed
  • Lead and support special projects as assigned

Requirements
  • 2 - 4 years related HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of HR laws and regulations
  • Experience in recruiting and staffing
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Proficient on ADP Workforcenow HRIS system
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
